Lanzarote is still GO!

It is good to report life is getting back to normal in Lanzarote, with the UK Government not changing Lanzarote from being "Amber" on the traffic light system and lots of visitors from the EU especially mainland Spain and Ireland

However this statement did not get much press............................

Grant Shapps is advising people returning from Spain to take a PCR test rather than a rapid/ lateral flow test before they fly back to the UK.

The Government advice is guidance and not law but it is likely to cause confusion over which tests need to be used for holidaymakers and airport staff "policing" the results.

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said people “can’t ignore” the new PCR requirement. He told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: “You can’t board the plane without one of these tests"

Mr Shapps added that the advice change would have little effect on British tourists in Spain because “virtually everyone is taking a PCR” there.

Note: This is NOT CORRECT - only 4% are taking the more expensive PCR test

I would not normally comment on individuals, but enough is enough, Grant Shapps is out of his depth and needs to be replaced

Active cases

In Lanzarote this is currently at 166 which equates to 69 cases per 100,000 in the last 7 days

With 4 people in hospital

For info the UK is currently 270 per 100,000 in the last 7 days (Gov.uk website)

Passport

If you are a UK passport holder and your passport is close to expiry, you may wish to check if it is valid to travel in the EU

Before Brexit, British citizens could travel to any nation in the EU, up to and including the expiry date on their passport. - this has now changed , the EU says you need 3 months left on your passport , the UK Government says 6 months , plus if you check the issue date and expiry date you may find you have over 10 years on your passport ........ I do!

To check , here is the link - https://check-passport-for-travel-to-europe.homeoffice.gov.uk/?cookies=true
