Lanzarote / Covid-19 ... the facts as we know it

There continues much speculation in the press and on social media, I thought I would try and state the facts as I know them today

Number of Covid-19 cases in Lanzarote

The number of active cases in Lanzarote is now 119 , which translates to 47 cases per 100,000 , The UK in comparison is 25 cases per 100,000 (For info Scotland is 29, England 25, Wales 15 and N Ireland 42)

The graph shows the 14 days Incidence - Canary Islands in green, Lanzarote in orange

Key dates for your diary - May 9 and May 10

The State of Alarm in Spain ends on May 9, and Madrid has already said it will not be extended. This will end 14 months of central control. From that point, power returns to the autonomous regions, (EG Canary Islands) The Canarian government are already reviewing the system of “Levels” for Covid restrictions, and should see an update next week

The UK Government is due to confirm it "traffic light" list of countries on May 10 (Maybe Friday May 7) and what testing/quarantine is required , if any, for each colour

Anything published now is pure speculation................

Covid-19 passport latest

The Daily Telegraph reported on April 22 the following.......

“Covid passports will be made available to prove people have been vaccinated as early as next month, in time for summer holidays, the travel industry has been told.

The Department for Transport wants an official certification scheme that gives British travellers a document they can show at borders overseas in place by May 17.

The Covid vaccine certificate could come in either digital or physical form, with government officials exploring the best way to make it work in the tight time frame.

Critically, the proof of having received a Covid jab would be certified by UK Government, meaning it would be accepted by countries demanding evidence before entry.

A government official on the call is understood to have said: “We aim to give people the ability to prove their vaccine status by the time international travel restarts where other countries require it. The earliest that will restart is May 17.”

Keep safe everyone
