Time capsule in a castle
One of Lanzarote's coolest cultural attractions is the Museo de la Historia de Arrecife, in the 16th-century San Gabriel Castle.
Its target is to bring visitors back in time as far back as prehistory and the very volcano-created origins of Lanzarote. It includes multimedia and some interactive displays on its unique fauna and flora, as well as the beginnings of human habitation up through the medieval period and into the present day.
The visit includes an exploration of the castle itself, with its impressive views out over the island, coastline, and ocean.
The history exhibition has been divided up into sections, including maritime, military and heritage.
The Arrecife History Musuem is open from 10:00 to 17:00 Monday to Friday
and 10:00 to 14:00 on a Saturday.
